![]() ![]() Donkey Kong Country Returns features some truly creative level design that makes it a joy to play through and always seems to have something new to bring to the table, and completionists will find this game fits right in with the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy when it comes to an excellent challenge in finding all its hidden secrets. Having said that, if you don’t mind a challenge, you’re in for a treat. DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS WII BEST BUY FULLThe sound here is also fantastic, with this game including some great cartoony sound effects, adorable nonverbal vocal expressions from the characters, and a beautiful soundtrack full of excellent remixes of songs from the earlier Donkey Kong Country games, along with some new compositions that fit in well with the classic tunes.ĭonkey Kong Country Returns plays beautifully as well, although I say that with a caveat - this game is notoriously tough, and players who see this game’s color and cartoony charm and expect something along the lines of a Mario game are in for a rude awakening. However, even with all of these cutbacks, Donkey Kong Country Returns remains an absolutely gorgeous game, with beautifully-realized, detailed, colorful environments full of activity, with wonderfully-animated characters, and just overall an incredibly polished presentation that makes this one of the best-looking games on the Nintendo 3DS much as it was one of the best-looking games on the Wii. And of course on the Nintendo 3DS’s tiny screen there just isn’t the same sort of detail and resolution that you’d get from a full console experience. The framerate has been cut down to 30FPS and even that can drop a bit further in places. In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, that presentation has naturally been downscaled quite a bit from its console predecessor. This is a game that channels the spirit of the Super Nintendo Donkey Kong Country games, but with new modern 3D visuals and a highly-polished presentation.
